The first celebrity in our Hollywood Goes Green series is none other than America’s Sweetheart, Julia Roberts. Critically acclaimed as one of the best actresses of her generation, Roberts has not only made her presence felt on the silver screen but also in the eco-friendly world as well.
The star of “Pretty Woman” and recent film “Eat. Pray. Love.” acknowledges her children as the main reason for her green spree, “It’s our absolute responsibility to take care of our children so that we don’t just throw up our hands and say … ‘Good luck to ya in 50 years.’”
Roberts was recently announced as a spokeswoman for the Dallas-based biodiesel company Evolution Fuels. Biodiesel is a fuel made primarily from plants, such as soybeans, and to a lesser extent from other sources of oil, such as cooking fat from deep-fryers.
In addition to her saving the world through bio-diesel methods, Roberts also helps out by being a spokeswoman for ONE: The Campaign to Make Poverty History. The organization, co-founded by U2 lead singer Bono, is a global movement whose goals include fighting the AIDS pandemic, ending world hunger, and encouraging greener energy practices.
